The age of resilience

The age of resilience
BY Jeremy Rifkin

The Progressive Era, the economic narrative of the last 150 years, has firmly anchored us in efficiency. Focused on our own humanity, in a spirit of domination and omnipotence, we have seized our planet as property, in search of a better life.

Our drive for efficiency, our cultivation of the myth of competitive advantage as the key to survival in a competitive world, has left us vulnerable. Thanks to the latest research in biology, physics and neuroscience, we are beginning to become aware of our interconnection with nature. With a resolutely optimistic outlook, the author proposes a new narrative based on glocalization and the sharing of the commons to ensure our survival by reconnecting with our environment. He proposes a world based on resilience, diversity and redundancy.

“For a long time, we believed we could force the nature to adapt to our species. Today, we are forced, mortified, to adapt to an unpredictable natural world”.
